Principal’s Update
Dear families,
Our students have settled back into their classes smoothly, and it was heartwarming to witness their smiles on Tuesday morning.
This term, we welcome Liz Golightly to the position of Deputy Principal for Upper Years (Years 3-6). Liz joins us from Fremantle College, and you can find more information about her in the 'In the Spotlight' section below.
On Monday, our staff participated in professional learning sessions to enhance our school's literacy approach, and they also took time to reflect on our current business plan in preparation for creating a new one for 2024-2026. I am eager to share this new plan with our school community once it is developed. During this week, we celebrated NAIDOC Week, and on Friday, we had Pyjama Day, raising funds for children in foster care. I thank our families and community members who joined us this week to support our students in learning about Aboriginal and Indigenous culture. The completed art piece made by Room 16 and 17, with the help of parent, Taneale, is now displayed in our Front Reception for those who wish to see it up close. Thank you, Taneale, for your wonderful contribution!
Below is our published Positive Behaviour Support Matrix, which lays out our school's behaviour expectations and the characters we have developed with the school echidna mascot. The aim for the PBS Leadership Group was to ensure our students felt the 4 characters authentically represented a sense of belonging in our school. In the next few weeks, you'll notice signage going up around the school, and we'll be celebrating students who demonstrate our PBS expectations with their actions. Below you will also find the document to ‘Name our Characters’.
Looking ahead, we have some exciting events lined up for this term. Next Wednesday, we will celebrate our 100th day at school, and we are eagerly anticipating the P&C run Glow disco on the 4th August 2023 at 1:30pm. Families will have the opportunity to purchase a Glow Goodie Bag for $5, and more information about this will be provided next week. Book Week will take place in Week 6, featuring lots of exciting activities, including the book week parade. Also, mark your calendars for our Sports Carnival on the 8th September 2023 in Week 8.
In Week 4, Individual Education Plans (IEPs) will be sent home, and teachers will be conducting IEP meetings this week and the next. Room 18 is trailing a new IEP meeting process, and I look forward to hearing how it goes. If you haven't scheduled a meeting with your child's class teacher yet, please do so, as we highly value your input in creating plans tailored to your child's education needs."
Kind regards,
Natasha Naylor
Principal

In the Spotlight ……..
Welcome back to another exciting jampacked Term 3! I would like to thank all the wonderful staff at GPESC for your warm welcome and fielding all my questions (more to come) as I learn more about our staff, students and families.
I have worn many hats in my 15 years of teaching and taught in a range of schools and situations. Being born and raised in South Africa, working in the UK and finally settling in Australia in 2014, has added to the confused accent. I have recently returned to work after having my daughter, Zoe, who is two years old. My husband is spending this year being a stay-at-home Dad and is fully embracing the life of the "soccer mum".
I like to think of myself as a transparent leader who works with integrity and will always puts the needs of the students first. Through nurturing and commitment to education, we are able to see students' progress and achieve in a range of areas. I look forward to being part of that journey and to support staff, families and students as we work together this term.
Kind Regards,
Lizelle Golightly
Deputy Principal
